Have you ever wondered how Playa Hermosa stays so “hermosa”?! Well it takes a community, eager volunteers, and a great organization! This past weekend, Recycle Hermosa organized a Playa Hermosa Beach Cleanup.
Beach cleanups are a great way to get the community involved. These events are important for understanding the current health and status of the environment around us. Participating allows you to learn what the community needs. As well as what we can improve on. It’s also a great way to get some exercise and meet your neighbors!
Last weekend, Recycle Hermosa focused on sprucing up the beach recycling areas. In the course of the beach cleanup volunteers added new receptacles for plastics, cans, and glass. New signs were placed next to these bins to help bring attention to those throwing away their trash. Rather than putting everything in the trash, beach goers can now separate their garbage. Separating the trash is an important step to help promote the recycling effort.
Many local businesses from the Playa Hermosa such as Hotel Villa del Sueño, Hotel Villas Huetares, Supermercado Luperón, Gitingas Handbags, Salon SGW, Unique Adventures Costa Rica, Tico Tours Guanacaste, Coomurec, and Tres Amigos Realty Group, showed up to join the fun! Locals and expats alike joined forces to scour every inch of Hermosa to leave it spotless.
Volunteers were sent all over town. Some folks walked the beach. Others cleaned the forest trails. While the rest took care of the roads. Extra care was taken to separate the garbage found. This prevents everything from winding up in the trash.
During the beach cleanup, the community was reminded of the weekly recycling program Playa Hermosa now has. All thanks to the Recycle Hermosa organization! Each Thursday, Coomurec (a women owned recycling co-op) collects the recyclables in Playa Hermosa. Recycling is easy! All you need to do is place your plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, and glass (separate) on the curb outside your home every Thursday morning.
